Securing PLCs and SCADA in food production

Programmable logic controllers and SCADA systems keep the line moving, but many were designed decades ago, speak unauthenticated protocols, and cannot be patched without a planned outage.

You cannot bolt modern security onto them directly, so you protect them from the outside: strict network segmentation, monitoring for commands that should never occur, and tight control over the engineering workstations that program them.

An attacker who reaches a PLC can do physical damage. Treating these devices as crown jewels — not forgotten infrastructure — is the shift that matters.
